The Venetian and austrian influence in Friuli

DAY 1

POLCENIGO AND SACILE

Arrival at the hotel and meeting with the environmental tour guide for a walk in Polcenigo, small village of medieval origin. A little stop at Gorgazzo, a very important naturalistic side where the water is coming from the deep crevices of the upland Cansiglio or Piancavallo, rises back to the surface creating a spring.  We will proceed then to the “Santissima”, a perennial source of water that derives from the calcareous group of mountains Prealpi del Cansiglio and is one of the major springs of the Livenza river. Typical lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon departure to Sacile, the town called “Giardino Della Serenissima” (the Serenissima Garden) thanks to its Venice-like atmosphere and its harmony architecture. A lot of Venetian-style palaces built on the river bank and reflecting in the water. Dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight.

DAY 2

CONEGLIANO, VALDOBBIADENE AND VITTORIO VENETO (PROSECCO ROUTE)

Arrival at the hotel and departure with the tour guide for a whole day excursion in Conegliano and Valdobbiadene through one of the most important wine routes in Italy: the Prosecco D.O.C.G. Territory. After a tour around Conegliano and its Castle on the mount, we will proceed towards the green hills to visit a magnificent Venetian Villa that hosts one of the most wine cellars in the area. During the visit lunch in a typical “Osteria” with wine tasting. On the way back a stop in Vittorio Veneto with its burgh Serravalle, built in Roman time. Dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight.

DAY 3

VENEZIA

After breakfast, departure from the train station for a whole day excursion in the city of Venice. Lunch and dinner at your leisure; return to the hotel in the evening by train (about 1hr).

DAY 4

SPILIMBERGO, POFABBRO E MANIAGO

After a breakfast meeting with the tour guide the excursion to Spilimbergo, known throughout the world for its decorative mosaics and its prestigious Mosaic School of Friuli, an institution unique in the world founded in 1922. Today it teaches the use of Roman, Byzantine and modern mosaic techniques and it researches and experiments aesthetic and functional solutions applied to contemporary times. Will visit the school but also its suggestive historical centre and a castle where the spectacular Palazzo Dipinto stands out. Lunch in a typical restaurant. In the afternoon departure to Pofabbro a very particular village where the architectural buildings in Poffabro were built without plans and with suggestive stone walls and wooden balconies. On the way back a stop in Maniago, known for its knife production.  After visiting the Museo dell’Arte Fabbrile e Delle Coltellerie, that gathers information about the steel manufacture of the factories in the area, a chance to stop and do some shopping. Return.

DAY 5

UDINE, VILLA MAMIN AND PALMANOVA

After breakfast, meeting with the local guide for a walking tour in Udine with squares of Venetian charm and ancient buildings: from Piazza Libertà, defined as "the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland", to Piazza Matteotti (or Herbal) which, all surrounded by porticos, seems to be an open-air lounge. The visit twill end on the Caste with a light lunch at a typical “Osteria” on the top of the hill. In the afternoon departure for the visit of Villa Manin residence of the last Doge of Venice: this noble villa, dating back to the 17th century, is a blend of beauty, history, and architectural perfection. On the route to the hotel stop in Palmanova built in 1593 by the Republic of Venice, Palmanova is a fortress-city preserved in exemplary condition. A national monument since 1960, in 2017 it became part of the Unesco World Heritage. Departure at the end.
